Christmas traditions in Britain

What is a mince pie?
What happens in a pantomime?
This excellent site, which I have recommended in previous posts, has an excellent section about all aspects of a Britsh Christmas.
The links in the left hand column take you to individual pages with short descriptions  as well as clear photos.

Activity - make a monster

This is great fun!
You can choose the body colour, eyes nose, mouth, ears, arms and legs and then make the monster dance, sing, sneeze, shout and blow up!

Life in Britain

This is an excellent site presented by a junior school in Kent, South East England.
I have used it ever since I started to teach English.

'The Woodlands Junior website contains fascinating facts and information about England, Scotland and Wales (Britain), in a way that is easy to read and to understand for people of all ages and cultures.'

The site contains information about:-
British Culture
The Making of The UK
Daily Life and Everyday needs
Education
Britain Today
Climate/Weather
How Britain is governed
The British Royal Family

Listen to stories in English

This school has an excellent reputation for providing links to lots of English activities.
This is the link to stories to listen to.

However, not all the activities use British English.
Many of the online talking stories are American.
Any of the stories which are marked from the British Council, the BBC and CBeebies will be British English WITHOUT regional accents!
'Dick Whittington' and Sun, Wind and Rain are also from CBeebies.
The 'Missing Apples' and 'Teddy Bear Land' are from Lancashire Grid For Learning (LGFL) and the readers have Lancashire accents.
